Promises: Devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows

  • St. Alphonsus Liguori revealed that Jesus made four promises to those who dedicate themselves to Mary's seven sorrows:

1. "That those who invoke the divine mother for their sorrows, before death will merit to obtain true repentance of all their sins."

2. "That He will protect them in their tribulations, especially at the hour of death."

3. "That He will engrave upon them the remembrance of His passion, and they will have their reward in heaven."

4. "That He will commit such godly servants into the hands of Mary, that she may dispose of them according to her will, and obtain for them all the graces she desires."

  • The Virgin Mary also presented promises to St. Bridget of Sweden for those souls who honor and accompany her daily, praying seven Hail Marys as they meditate on her tears and sorrows:

1. "I will grant peace to their families."

2. "They will be enlightened about the divine mysteries."

3. "I will comfort you in your sorrows and accompany you in your work."

4. "I will give you whatever you ask for, provided it does not oppose the adorable will of my divine Son or the sanctification of your souls."

5. "I will defend you in your spiritual battles with the infernal enemy and I will protect you in every moment of your lives."

6. "I will help you visibly at the moment of your death, you will see the face of your Mother."

7. "I have obtained this grace from My divine Son, that those who spread this devotion to my tears and sorrows, will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness, since all their sins will be forgiven and My Son will be their eternal comfort and joy."

  • Our Lady made these promises to Marie-Claire in Kibeho, Rwanda to those who pray her Rosary of the Seven Sorrows:

1. With the heartfelt prayer of the Rosary of the Seven Sorrows, the hardest hearts will change, whether you pray it for yourself or for others.

2. By praying the rosary of the Seven Sorrows, I will free you from obsessions and addictions.

3. This rosary, when said from the heart, will win us true repentance of our sins and free our souls from guilt and remorse.

4. Those who pray it often, especially as Our Lady recommended to Marie Claire, on Tuesdays and Fridays, will gain a clear understanding of their weaknesses and shortcomings that cause them to sin, and those things that we do not like about ourselves, but think are a part of our character, will change.
